Fake Egg – not a good meal for a snake

Our vet Izzy performed an interesting surgery this afternoon to remove a foreign body from inside of a water python, which was bought to the clinic with bird net injuries.
The lump was xrayed, measured and monitored over the weekend and was discovered to in fact be moving slowly back up the body!
Once removed it was revealed to be a fake chicken egg, the kind used in chicken coops to encourage hens to lay. Water pythons notoriously love to eat chickens and will consume chicken eggs from time to time.
This pretend chicken egg, however, was going nowhere and had it not been removed, the water python would have eventually died.
The bird net injuries are also quite bad, however we have high hopes for this python’s full recovery and her release back to where she belongs
